Update:

My SmartMug is now completely broken. I've seen a little hot water heater that plugs into the cigarette lighter and I think I'll get that and a wide mouthed thermos as Peter suggests. That should take care of most of my cooking. Still sort of debating the idea of a little toaster oven that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

I'm gonna amend what I said about the frying pan above... if you're frying up a sausage or some veggies or something, it only takes 5-10 minutes. If it's filled with fluids and dense things (like ramen or egg soup) it takes 20 minutes or so to get hot to the point of boiling.

Hotter faster when the van is running, huh? I'll have to try that.

The RoadPro 12v pan looks interesting. I don't know if I want to pay 35 bucks for one, but I'll keep my eyes open for a cheaper/used one. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing about my smartmug. It takes a very long while to heat up too.

Yeah, the smartmug is more like a crockpot. For ramen you need a RoadPro 12v pan - drive two or three exits down the freeway and dinner's done. I'm not sure if it's the case with the SmartMug, but the 12v pan definitely gets hotter faster when the van is running.
