For now I just wanted to get up a page on my site about tatting, though eventually I’d like to expand this out to a separate page with posts about current projects. I’ve started work on a couple of tablecloths and also have a skirt I’d like to decorate with tatting. All very exciting projects for you to read about, I’m sure.

But what is tatting anyway? Tatting is a form of making lace using either a needle or shuttles. I’m a shuttle tatter. Tatting is by far my best conversation starter. Doesn’t matter where I am it’s easy to pull out the shuttles and start tatting. Within a few minutes someone always asks me what I’m doing.

Though I’m starting to transition into making larger projects (those tablecloths…) what I like to do while traveling are smaller projects, usually bookmarks, bracelets, necklaces, etc…

Here’s some pictures of some of the things I’ve made. All of them are for sale, of course. Eventually I’d like to sell enough tatting to make some extra spending money, but for now I’d be happy to have the tatting pay for the thread addiction. Pieces shown on this page are $5-$25 depending on the piece/thread size.

For the tatters out there who are interested in the patterns to these pieces I’ll have to get back to you. Some of these patterns I’ve been making for years and years using different colors and slight variations. When I get a chance I’ll go back and figure out where I got the patterns in the first place. If you see any you recognize please let me know so I can give credit where it’s due.

Update: I’ve found the pattern for my favorite of the following tatting pieces.  The pattern with interlocking colors is by Lenore English and can be found on her website.  This is probably my favorite pattern.  I’m considering doing a larger piece with it.  Maybe a tablecloth or a shawl.
